Water Tanks:
Water sanitation is a huge issue on the plateau, where most people drink water collected from streams, wells or pits. A great alternative to this risky drinking situation is installing water tanks and gutter systems on homes that will collect rain water throughout the year to be used for drinking and agricultural purposes. Several gutter systems have already been installed on homes on the plateau and we hope to continue providing this technology to those who need it.

Estimated cost: $300 per tank (this will purchase the tank, put in a concrete foundation for it, attach the gutters and install the water purification system)

Goats:
Dairy goats provide orphan and elder “clusters” of Bethlehem Home with nutritious goat’s milk (which has many nutritional benefits when compared to cow’s milk) as well as means of an income. Goats are cared for and milked by Bethlehem Home orphans and elders. Goats purchased are specially bred, hardy Toggenburg and Alpine breed goats which withstand the climate of the plateau quite well.

Estimated cost: Males- $250 and Females- $225

Medicines:
We are always in need of over-the-counter medications, such as:
***Note*** We request that all medications are in tablet-form, not liquid.

  • Pain relievers (i.e. Tylenol, Asprin)
  • VITAMINS (ADULT, KIDS, PRENATAL)
  • Allergy (decongestants, antihistamine)
  • Stomach medications (i.e. Tums, Omeprazole)
  • Topical (apply to skin): cortisone (Cortaid), anti fungal (Lotrimin), antibacterial (Bactroban, Neosporin)
  • Eyedrops (i.e. Visine or eyedrops for allergies)
